Harvest Moon, Tokyo Moon

Appreciation of the full moon in September is seen in a lot of cultures all over the world. They show their gratitude for blessed harvest gathering all together to appreciate the moon. It's called Harvest Moon among the native American people, I've learned. In Japan, the people traditionally call the Moon "Chushu no Meigetsu" or "Jugoya". It literally means the moon on August 15 in the Japan's old lunar calendar. It is not always a full moon but appears as a full or almost full moon due to the moon's elliptical orbit. It's believed the moon of the night is significantly clear and beautiful. September 29 is the day of Chushu no Meigetsu in 2023. Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo projects a diameter of 9 feet full moon on a screen produced by flowing mist above the pond. The event of the display, "Tokyo Moon" is shown till November 8. It starts at 6:40pm, 7:40pm, 8:40pm and 9:40pm and lasts 7 minutes.  Photo: Chushu no Meigetsu (C)Mizumi 2023
